RIVALRY DAY! Park vs. Friends

RIVALRY DAY! Park vs. Friends

We welcome Friends School to Old Court Road for our fourth annual Rivalry Day — Saturday, October 12! Dress for a white out — wearing all white, or your Brown and White Day t-shirt (information below).

Park captured its third consecutive Rivalry Day Cup last fall, and we're excited to compete against Friends again for Rivalry Day 2019

The terms of Rivalry Day are simple: we play a lineup of games with our longstanding rivals, Friends School, keep track of the outcomes, and the school with the better record claims bragging rights until the next Rivalry Day. In 2018, our athletes prevailed (4.5-2.5) out of the 7 contests — and played with tenacity, skill, and dedication all day.

The greatest outcome of the day each year is seeing students from K-12, parents, employees, and alumni contributing to the wonderful spirit of this cross-community event with Friends School. From our Lower School athletes giving us a halftime show on the turf field, to our energetic mascot — our entire community helped make the day a success and helped support our teams in capturing our second Rivalry Cup!

This year there will be food for sale (click HERE for details), a snack shack by the Bruin Athletic Council, and games and contests (and prizes!) throughout the day!

See below for this year’s schedule.

WHAT TO SING

Park School, Park School, Hear thy sons and daughters greet thee,
We a loyal band and true come singing, To our Alma Mater our praise bringing
Park School, Park School, High we’ll raise our flag and long cheer,
As we’re marching on to vict’ry ‘neath the Brown and White.

Park School, Park School All our lessons hard we learn there,
Algebra and Latin lie in wait and History and English keeps us late in
Park School, Park School, But our motto still is “Strive on,”
As we’re marching on to vict’ry ‘neath the Brown and White.

(Verse 3 only sung by Alumni)

Park School, Park School, When our course is done we leave thee,
Still thy mem'ry lingers in each heart With thoughts of happy days before we part from
Park School, Park School, When we're old and gray we'll still cheer,
As we're marching on to vict'ry 'neath the Brown and White.

Isaac A. Oppenheim, one of Park’s founders, composed “Park School” in 1913, with lyrics by Eugene Randolph Smith.
