Preseason Information

Our collective goal is to provide positive and meaningful experiences for all students who participate in our program. There is no better place to learn life lessons than on an athletic field, court, or course. Teamwork, leadership, emotional control, confidence and self esteem, handling adversity, and commitment are just a few of the many benefits that participation on a team can help instill. We want to challenge students to take risks and compete outside their comfort zone. We hope to positively place student athletes allowing for maximum growth within a season. All students are encouraged to try a sport this year; regardless of experience, there is a place for everyone in our program. Take a risk, take a chance – try something new!

We are looking forward to a great year. Our doors are always open; please do not hesitate to reach out.

FOURTH AND FIFTH GRADE SPORTS ACTIVITES

Dear Fourth and Fifth Grade Parents:

We would like to welcome you to Park School Athletics for the 2019-2020 school year and to introduce the Lower School Athletic offerings. Fourth and fifth grade students are given the opportunity to participate on a Park team and to compete, sport dependent, against other schools. The philosophy of our Lower School Athletic Program is for all students to have the opportunity to be on a team and to have balanced participation in games. Practice will be used to teach fundamentals of the sport as well as the strategies needed to be successful in scrimmage play in a supportive and positive manner. Our goals are for the kids to have fun, experience team play, and to insure that they are excited about continued participation in Park Athletics when they reach our Middle School.

We are one of the very few schools who offer team sports at this level. Our parents have been tremendous supporters of this program and our kid’s participation has been outstanding. We hope that your child will join our teams and be a part of “Bruin Pride.”

Lower School sports have been a tradition at Park and we are excited and thrilled to have your child take part. Please feel free to contact Robin Cardin Lowe, rlowe@parkschool.net, or Dia Clark, dclark@parkschool.net, should you have any questions.

Lower School Athletic Information 2019-2020

Changes in the weekly practice and game schedule will be emailed to the parents of players using the Veracross system.

FALL

Soccer — Grades 4-5

Field Hockey — Grades 4-5

SOCCER

GRADES 4-5
3:15-4:30 p.m.

Practice/Game pickup and drop-off: Practice will run from 3:15-4:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, beginning Wednesday, September 11. Students will meet coaches at the entrance to the Athletic Center and travel to 1 of the 3 west fields on our main campus (Boys’ Varsity Field, Girls’ Varsity Field, or Rosenberg Field). All 3 of the fields are in the rear of the Athletic Center and are easily accessible from one another. If for some reason the practice location should change, we will communicate the change via email. At 4:30 p.m., coaches will walk the students to carpool (main entrance of the school) for pick up. Those not picked up by 4:40 p.m. will be accompanied to Lower School Extended Day.

Games: we are in the process of arranging dates for a potential game (or two) with another school, but hope to have 2 Brown and White intra-squad games this season. The games will fall within the normal practice days of Mondays and Wednesdays, but will require a larger time commitment than a normal practice. Most likely a game-day will occupy the hours of 3:15-5 p.m. on your child's schedule. If we are able to travel to play another school, that will also add to the time commitment for that day. We will communicate additional game day information once the game dates are finalized.

Absences: If your child misses school or will miss practice or a game for any reason, please let us know so that we are able to account for all students. Feel free to send an email to athletics@parkschool.net and we will make sure it gets to the coaches.

Equipment Required for Soccer:

  • Soccer cleats
  • Shin guards
  • Water bottle (recommended)
  • Athletic shorts and t-shirt will be acceptable for practice
  • Game jerseys will be provided by the School.

FIELD HOCKEY

GRADES 4-5
3:15-4:30 p.m.

Practice/Game Pickup and drop-off: Practice will run from 3:15-4:30 on Mondays & Wednesdays, beginning Wednesday, September 11. Students will meet coaches in Blaustein Gym II (pick up equipment) and travel to practice as a group (indoors in Blaustein Gyms, Kelly turf field, or Tompkins field). If for some reason the practice location should change, we will communicate the change via email. At 4:30 p.m., coaches will walk the students to Carpool (main entrance of the school) for pick up and those who are not picked up by 4:40 p.m., will be accompanied to Lower School Extended Day.

Games: There will be no interscholastic competition this fall, but we hope, if our numbers allow, we will play one or two Brown and White intra-squad scrimmages. If we are able, we will combine with our 6th grade field hockey players to play an interscholastic game against an opponent.

Absences: If your child misses school or will miss practice or a game for any reason, please let us know so that we are able to account for all students. Feel free to send an email to athletics@parkschool.net and we will make sure it gets to the coaches.
