Description: Through a deep dive into the lives of the key players and personalities on both sides of this raging political fight, students will acquire in-depth knowledge about the unsuccessful battle to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment in the 1970s, and about the ways in which it ignited the broad-based “culture wars” that still divide the Americans today. To bring these past and present issues to the fore, students will watch and discuss the widely acclaimed Hulu series (9 episodes) “Mrs. America”; research the factual basis of the film and identify fictionalized accounts where they exist; research any aspect of the life and times of a particular character in the series; and research a particular aspect the tumultuous “culture wars” of today through the lens of these events in the 1970s.
