TueSDAY, November 13

Substance Use Parent Traps and Prevention for the High School Years

for Ninth Grade Parents

This "must-attend" once-yearly Park Connects event is part of our ongoing commitment to prevention and wellness amongst our students. Prevention Specialists from the leading substance use prevention organization Freedom From Chemical Dependency (FCD) will present information on current trends in teen substance use.  Following their presentation there will be a facilitated discussion focused on parenting strategies to help your children enjoy a substance-free adolescence. Some of the topics to be addressed include:

  • Effective ways to communicate with your child about drugs and drug use
  • Current trends in substance use
  • How to talk about your own experiences with substances
  • How to detect early warning signs of use, and effective ways to respond

This program presents an opportune moment for discussing alcohol and other drug-related issues with your children. Parental involvement is crucial to our efforts to reduce the risks teenagers face and we appreciating your partnership in our commitment to keeping our children safe and healthy. Please join FCD and school counselors Krista Dhruv and Evan Velleman for this important program.

Agenda for the evening:
