Maintenance Technician

Park School is a co-ed pre-Kindergarten through grade 12 independent school in northwestern Baltimore County, Maryland with approximately 200 full-time employees and many seasonal employees.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director of Facilities, this non-exempt, 12-month, full-time position is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to repair and maintain the building facilities, equipment, and systems.

Job Responsibilities

  • Complete maintenance and repair assignments within appropriate time limits
  • Complete assignments thoroughly and address unforeseen conditions
  • Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments as needed
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment, and plant facilities
  • Perform a variety of building maintenance functions, including but not limited to plumbing, lighting, electrical, sheetrock, painting, and carpentry
  • Work with a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment
  • Respond to emergency situations in a calm and professional manner
  • Follow the department’s and the School’s policies, protocols, and procedures
  • Work independently and demonstrate appropriate judgment
  • Support team efforts and maintain professional interpersonal relationships
  • Drive a school bus
  • Work hours required to support evening and weekend events
  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Extensive commercial property maintenance experience
  • High school diploma or equivalency, or trade school certificate
  • Journeyman’s license in a trade (electrical, plumbing, carpentry)
  • Possess general construction skills: plumping, electrical, carpentry
  • Experience working with a variety of building tools and materials
  • Possess mechanical skills with motorized equipment
  • Possess communication and interpersonal skills
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and have the ability to obtain and maintain a D.O.T and CDL school bus certification

WORK HOURS AND DAYS

  • Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. or 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (may be adjusted as needed)
  • Drive an A.M. or P.M. school bus route and at other times as needed
  • Occasional evenings and weekends for special events
  • On-call rotation on a regularly assigned basis; responding to after-hour alarm calls when necessary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Manually handle equipment and material weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Work overhead
  • Ascend/descend a ladder
  • Use and work off of a scissor lift at high heights
  • Traverse long distances
  • Physically position self to move when working at different levels/positions
  • Work in tight spaces
  • Work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow
