Singing Groups

Parksingers
This Upper School chorus sings a variety of choral works and arrangements in several musical styles and languages. The group rehearses three times a week. Several community performances are planned for each semester and traveling performances are possible for the upcoming season. Parksingers participate in all planned assemblies, concerts, and the annual AIMS Choralfest.

Eightnotes
This Upper School female a cappella vocal ensemble performs traditional and contemporary songs. The group practices twice a week with frequent additional rehearsals. Eightnotes performs at a variety of school and community events. Singers usually participate in a regional vocal competition as well as the AIMS Choralfest. Vocal Chords
This Upper School a cappella vocal ensemble for males performs both traditional and popular songs. The group rehearses twice a week with several additional practice times. Singers perform at assemblies, community events, and the AIMS Choralfest. Vocal Chords must be members of Parksingers and membership is by audition.

Middle School Chorus
This non-auditioned chorus sings folk music from America and around the world, arrangements of show tunes and popular tunes, and composed art music. They rehearse two times per week during the shool day, and perform at assemblies and at Decemeber and end-of-year concerts.

Lower School Chorus
The Lower School Chorus is a non-auditioned chours composed of children in grades 4 and 5. Chorus meets once a week for 45 min during the school day. Many skills are developed during rehearsals including proper vocal technique, diction, blend, vocal ensemble skills, music reading, and partwork. The repertoire includes a variety of folk, classical, holiday, contemporary, jazz, and blues. The Lower School Chorus learns to sing unison melodies, as well as songs written in 2 and 3 parts. The main performances for the chorus are the winter concert in December and the spring concert in May.

Soundwaves
The Soundwaves is a second singing group in the Lower School. The group is non-auditioned and is open to students in grades 4 and 5 who also sing with the Lower School Chorus. The Soundwaves meet after school, on Thursdays, for 1 hour. Students who sing with this group work on the concepts presented in the Lower School Chorus however develop these skills at a more advanced level. The repertoire is varied and is usually performed in 2- to 4-part harmony and a cappella. The Soundwaves have more performance opportunities which include both the winter and spring concerts, singing at the Upper School concerts, Open Houses, Grandparents Day, Art Gallery Openings, and off campus performances.
