Director of Civic Engagement and Service Learning

The School seeks a Director of Civic Engagement and Service Learning to continue Park’s long-standing and historic commitment to preparing students for lives of active engagement. The school’s most recent strategic plan (2012) affirms our goal of “continuing our progressive belief in active participation beyond the classroom (by promoting) civic engagement at student, faculty, and institutional levels.”

The Director of Civic Engagement and Service Learning is a full-time, twelve- month, senior level role; this person reports directly to the Head of School and is a member of the senior administrative team. We seek an individual who can implement a vision for a K-12 civic engagement program; someone who is able to work with faculty, students, alumni, and our partners in the broader community in effective, creative, and collaborative ways.

  • Experience working with K-12 students in service learning, community service, and social justice initiatives in independent schools
  • Ability to establish and manage service learning opportunities at the local, national, and international levels
  • Experience planning and coordinating multiple programs, budgets, and program assessment
  • Interest in working with all three divisions and a demonstrated sense of age-appropriate engagement
  • Ability to communicate effectively with multiple constituent groups; strong listening skills
  • Ability to provide administrative and logistical support to faculty leading civic engagement initiatives
  • Ability to balance advocacy needed to promote change with diplomacy required to engender broad community support for civic engagement initiatives
  • Demonstrated experience with cultural competency work

  • Work to implement the school’s vision for a coherent, developmentally appropriate K-12 service learning program
  • Provide faculty with professional development opportunities, resources, and assistance in designing curriculum with service learning components
  • Collaborate with staff to share the activities of the program and to promote future opportunities
  • Accompany faculty on service learning trips with classes
  • Coordinate and develop existing civic engagement initiatives, such as Civic Works, Viva House, and Middle Grades Partnership, and promote new possibilities
  • Identify grant/funding sources for civic engagement programs and initiatives
  • Represent Park through membership in national organizations

Park salaries and benefits are highly competitive with those in other leading independent schools. For new appointments, salaries reflect experience and training equated to Park’s scales.
